Bayern Munich can make up a 14-point deficit on Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund, key players Arjen Robben and Philipp Lahm said in interviews published on Thursday.

The reigning champions Munich had a mediocre first half of the season by their standard to rank fourth, but hope to regroup during the winter break which runs until mid-January.

"We will try everything to make the season interesting again. If there is a team that can make up such a deficit then it's us. We want to achieve the impossible and always believe in ourselves," the Germany defender Lahm told the Bild daily.

Robben told the Munich club website: "You have to be realistic and show respect for your opponent. Dortmund played a super first half of the season and deserve to be 14 points ahead of us.

"But anything is possible in football. We will give it all we have from January 2 onwards and will try to achieve a long (winning) streak."

Munich fly to Qatar on January 2 for a one-week training camp and their first league match is January 15 at VfL Wolfsburg. There Robben is expected to make his comeback from a hamstring injury which has so far sidelined him this season.

Robben's planned return is one reason for Munich's confidence, but he asked not to expect miracles.

"I want to be important for the team as soon as possible. But we should not forget that I have not played in half a year. That's why not everything will be OK again as soon as I play. It's not that easy," said Robben.

Robben was also cautious looking ahead at the Champions League round of 16 date with Inter Milan, the Italians who beat Munich 2-0 in the 2010 final.

"The revenge aspect is not important to me. It will be difficult against Inter Milan. This team is strong defensively and tactically. Italian teams are always good in competitions like the Champions League," Robben said.

Lahm, for his part, was far more optimistic ahead of the matches February 23 in Milan and March 15 in Munich.

"We are looking forward to this revenge and I see a light advantage on our side," said Lahm.
